SOPOT FOR THE SECOND SHIFT

Just as it was in Kolonia Artystyczna the restaurant is opened by  Spółdzielnia Socjalna, a collective of artists: sculptors, painters, musicians, dancers and performers, 8 people: Julian Cyrzan, Adam Hryniewicki, Marcin Męczykowski, Maciej Salamon, Anna Steller, Tomasz Wierzchowski, Katarzyna Wołowska and Krystian Wołowski .
– Acting alone we had limited opportunities so we decided to combine our forces – they say. – We gathered together in the form of the Spółdzielnia Socjalna (Social Cooperative) because this legal form best reflects our vision of professional development – on the one hand, the normal company with positions, the other non-governmental organization with the mission of activities for the public benefit. They called themselves “Dwie Zmiany” (“Two Shifts”), because they don’t want to give up the current creative activity and they aim to double work. City of Sopot came with the help and offered local in Monte Casino Street (after the Złoty Ul, the oldest and longest-running restaurant in Sopot).

They did the renovation, restored the original look of the place. They removed dozens of partition walls, including approx. twenty containers of debris, seven tons each. As a result, instead of several small rooms there are two large rooms: white, gallery and concert hall, lit by a huge skylight and slightly smaller turned into a restaurant with a bar. In the center is the kitchen – We did not plan it – they say – but it became the heart (or perhaps more appropriately stomach) of the place. We asked the artist Anna Królikiewicz to be our guide in matters of feeding, we hired a chef Sebastian Jadczak. We focus on unpretentious bistro-style cuisine, based on simple, fresh and high quality seasonal products. In the menu, among others, whole baked vegan cauliflower in cumin and tomatoes, barley pink tabbouleh with lime pickles, edible garden: roasted vegetables and edible flowers, beet carpaccio with onion marmalade and parsley chips or roasted pumpkin with quinoa, pickled lemon and coriander. And also to buy take-away in jars with kale pesto from Sebastian or vegan Nutella from Julia.

You can drink coffee, eat home-made cake, healthy breakfast, a salad or a full dinner and drink good wine and beer from a small brewery with small snacks. In addition to a feast for the palate you will also find something for the soul. For exhibitions responsible are Maciek Salamon (Tricity’s great graphic designer and musician) and Tomasz Wierzchowski (musician and co-founder of the Gallery Gablotka) – We want to present a good art from around the world – says Wołowski. We are also planning concerts, workshops, film screenings and literary meetings and create an open space for all workshops. Dwie Zmiany have the chance to become the cultural and gastronomic heart of Sopot. USTA wishes good luck!
