PORTRAIT OF AMY

It turned out more than good. Mainly because, apart from the unquestionable cognitive values, “Amy” is first and foremost a poignant film about the essence of fate. Winehouse, fragile girl with a voice of a soul diva in age of sixty, in addition to a huge talent has been “blessed” with a monster- father and strong self-destructive tendencies. If we add to this murderous voracity of the media, acting as a meat grinder crossed with a road roller, we get a load of inevitability, like in a Greek tragedy. Watching Kapadia’s movie it’s hard to resist the impression that the fate of Amy in a sense was doomed from the start. The impression is even more painful because even with the technically bad recordings, or snippets recorded with a phone, emerges a picture of an artist comparable to Billie Holiday. And at the same time of a fascinating, charismatic person who died before flourished for good.
