Alicja Biala’s works from the „Polska” series combine symbols, motives and emblems that constitute the collective identity of the Polish people. The artist uses photos found on the Internet, family archives, pictures cut out from the press as well as her own photos created specially for this project. Cut and put together sloppily, during hangover, rattled off, chaotic and who knows how come it still holds on” – this is how the artist herself describes the project „Polska”. Alicja Biala’s photo-collages were executed independently of the peoms of Marcin Świetlicki as separate narrations, to be finally merged in a book released by Wydawnictwo Wolno. The project „Poland no Offence” is the continuation alluding to the 100 years of Polish independence.
Inspired by the tradition of peregrination, the artist initiated the tour of selected works across Poland. Many people from the world of culture and politics joined the action. The collages travelled among others to: Krystyna Janda, Olga Tokarczuk, Katarzyna Nosowska, Robert Biedron. The artist thus explains her intentions: „It was important to me for these works to travel, to initiate discussions about Poland but also to let us look at ourselves from a distance. Poles, totally unnecessarily, are extremely uptight about their polishness. I hope these works make them laugh or wonder.
At the exhibition in Leica 6×7 Gallery in Warsaw Alicja Biala presents the original photocollages published in the book of poems „Polska, wiązanka pieśni patriotycznych”, as well as the unpublished ones. There will also be whole new works created recently. The „icons” that have lately been travelling around the country also arrived in Leica 6×7 Gallery. Their long journey, full of adventures, is described in a special site-specific installation.

The flavour of leniwe (Polish Lazy Dumplings) with salt is in Rutu Modan’s genes. But she had to come to Poland to discover that. An Israeli illustrator tells us why, after all, she decided to get to know the motherland of her ancestors. When I visited Tel Aviv for the first time, I went to a

Inspired by the unprecedented Women’s March in Warsaw, the Seven Sisters exhibition presents works of six artists from different countries. Their installations, sculptures, photographs and performance evoke and deconstruct, with distance, sense of humour and a certain sense of poetry, the omnipresence of female body in public space and the mystified notion of interior and intimate space.
