Grids from Ruffle

Polish textiles seem to lack a recognisable style despite long tradition of printed fabrics and availability of modern production facilities. Today the decorative fabrics market is dominated by Scandinavian design, which, while being in line with the contemporary trends, preserves regional character. With that in mind, Iza and Julia decided to create a product that would be 100% Polish – from the project stage until production.

“We live in Warsaw so the urban landscape is our natural source of inspiration”, they say. “In our project we use the patterns of window bars, we are fascinated by their diverse shapes. We stripped them off from their protective function and their secondary design character became a point of departure for our collection. The fabrics are made in pigment printing technology on calico. The production is based in Łódź – the capital of the Polish textile industry”.

The “Grids” collection qualified for the final exhibition of the competition MakeMe! at Łódź Design Festival 2014. Falbanka showcased it also at Wanted Design New York and at Helsinki Design Week. The fabrics will be also presented at Design March in Reykjaviku in March 2016.
