There is a shock at first. Always. Because you seemingly know what to expect, but the real city is more impressive than the numbers in guidebooks or the outlines drawn on maps. Istanbul is overpowering. It hits all the senses, turns heads. The first reaction - intimidation. Or perhaps even a sense of being overwhelmed by the sounds, the constant movement around. But this passes with the first cup of strong, bitter tea, which wakes you up and grounds you in new territory. It also passes with the first breakfast of a million plates: with crunchy green peppers, black olives, kaymak topped with honey and eggs in sour yoghurt. It passes with the first ferry ride connecting two parts of the city and two continents.

Winter attractions in Vilnius

Last week's Vilnius Light Festival gave everyone interested a taste of what makes the Lithuanian capital so special, even in the colder months. Given that Gallup's latest global well-being report indicates that anxiety and stress levels have reached their highest levels in a decade, travelers are increasingly opting for quietcations, i.e., trips focused on slowing down and reconnecting with the physical world. Vilnius, with its forests within easy reach, traditional saunas, and peaceful, unique atmosphere, offers exactly what many of us need. For Polish travelers, the flight to their destination takes less than two hours.

Clay of infinite possibilities

A theater scholar and journalist, she works with people and under deadline pressure. Lots of conversations and stimuli. Ceramics is a gateway through which she escapes to a world of harmony and nature, to herself. She works in various techniques, including wheel throwing, but she likes intuitive sculpting best. She sits down at the table, breaks off a piece of soft clay from the block, rolls it into a cylinder, and sticks one cylinder to another. She only has a general outline of the shape in her head. Her hands follow the clay.

We tried these drinks and we are absolutely enchanted. Limited editions, seasonal flavors (oh, that magnolia champagne!) and outstanding sensations on the nose and tongue. Not only do they successfully replace alcohol, but each of these bottles is an adventure, a journey to an enchanted garden, to a field. Róża Brito, the creator of Brito Farm, shows incredible sensitivity and class with her fermentations.

Time for crafts

From September 12 to 14, Krosno will become an international design center. For three days, the city will open its spaces to art, innovation, and creativity—from the historic market square to forgotten vacant buildings, which will come alive thanks to installations, exhibitions, and experimental projects. It is here, in the south of Podkarpacie, that the Krosno Design Festival 2025 will take place, an event where the past and the future meet in a creative dialogue.

Equinox art dinner

The Berlin-based brand Mimi Ferments invites you to an artistic dinner to celebrate the autumn equinox. Ancient ceremonies between seasons were intended to create a connection between the world of the living and the world of the dead. Rituals separate these transitional periods from everyday life. These annual events are traditionally celebrated in Japan with special dishes. Reiko Kanazawa organizes four evening events each year: during the equinoxes (spring and autumn), “Bon” – a Japanese ritual after the summer solstice, and “New Year.” Thanks to these unique events, we have the opportunity to realize the physical and transient nature of our physical presence and the seasons.
